Last Surviving 9/11 Rescue Dog Laid To Rest

The last surviving rescue dog from the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks has finally been laid to rest.
Bretagne, the last known 9/11 dog that helped search and rescue efforts at Ground Zero, was put to sleep Monday at 16 years of age. She will be buried in the Houston area, Click2Houston reports.

Bretagne also worked on Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita. Her health had been struggling recently.
Bretagne’s handler, Denise Corliss, told CNN, “there were still times when I held my breath and said, ‘I hope she does this right. I hope she’s OK.’ ”
Video shows her last walk into the vet’s office receiving salutes on both sides. She was carried out covered with an American flag.
