Trump Reportedly Won’t Run As An Independent

It’s unlikely GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump will run as a third-party candidate if he doesn’t win the nomination.

An associate close to the campaign told Politico Trump plans to sign the Republican National Committee’s loyalty pledge to avoid issues related to getting listed on primary ballots.

Trump is set to meet with RNC Chairman Reince Priebus at his campaign headquarters in New York Thursday, and announced he will hold a press conference on his decision at 2 p.m.

The Associated Press reports the RNC has been working with Trump’s campaign in an effort to sway the candidate against a third-party run in fear it would prevent the party from taking control of the White House in 2016.

“I [name] affirm that if I do not win the 2016 Republican nomination for president of the United States I will endorse the 2016 Republican presidential nominee regardless of who it is. I further pledge that I will not seek to run as an independent or write-in candidate nor will I seek or accept the nomination for president of any other party,” the pledge reads.

Campaign manager Corey Lewandowski couldn’t confirm the unpredictable candidate’s decision.

“I don’t think you can ‘expect’ ANYTHING from Mr. Trump,” Lewandowski told Politico.

The controversial businessman was the only candidate during the first Republican debate to raise his hand when asked if they would consider an independent run.
