The Alaska Republican Party is in the process of determining what, if any, action should be taken against Sen. Lisa Murkowski after she voted against confirming Justice Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court on Saturday.

The state Republicans are weighing the options on whether or not to withdraw support from the Alaska senator, Tuckerman Babcock, the Alaska GOP chairman, told The Associated Press. Murkowski was the only Republican senator to defect from the party and oppose Kavanaugh’s nomination. The committee is also considering requesting that Murkowski abstain from seeking re-election when her term ends in 2022.

Republicans in Alaska were reportedly outraged over her decision, according to Babcock. But Murkowski told the AP that she has only able to do her job as a Senator because she was not concerned with the political backlash.

“I believe that Judge Kavanaugh is a good man. He’s a good man,” Murkowski said prior to the vote. “He’s clearly a learned judge. But in my conscience, because that’s how I have to vote — end of the day, is with my conscience — I could not conclude that he is the right person for the court at this time.”

Despite Murkowski revealing that she would not be supporting the confirmation, she later announced that she would be voting “present” as a courtesy to Republican Sen. Steve Daines of Montana so he could skip the vote in order to walk his daughter down the aisle during her wedding.
