The Simpsons Goes After Trump, Fox News, And O’Reilly At Comic Con

A panel of writers, producers, and voice actors from “The Simpsons” took shots at prominent conservatives including President Donald Trump, Bill O’Reilly, and Fox News at Comic Con Saturday.
“The Simpsons” writer Al Jean was asked by an audience member if she had ever denied a request from a celebrity to be on the show. She claimed she once said no to someone, but instead of revealing their identity, she said, “Let’s just say he’s President of The United States.”
Producer Bill Oakley went so far as to “thank God” on Twitter that Trump had never made an appearance on the show.

Series creator Matt Groening said after the writers went after Fox News several times, their parent company intervened asking them to back off. “We started doing Fox News jokes, and they asked us to take it easy on them,” said Groening.
This isn’t the first time “The Simpsons” has taken shots at Trump or the Republican party. In the episode “Bart to The Future” the writing team correctly predicted the Trump presidency 16 years before it happened, saying Trump would leave the country further in debt.
They also depicted the GOP as being led by the evil Mr. Burns, Dracula, Rush Limbaugh, a loud, gun-toting Texan, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Groening went after O’Reilly, citing his sexual harassment scandals and leading the crowd in a change of “lock him up.” A play on the popular chant “lock her up” used by Trump supporters to describe Hillary Clinton.
“The Simpsons” was renewed for a 29th and 30th season last year. It is on track to have the most episodes of a scripted TV series with 669. The previous record holder “Gunsmoke” had 635.
