A teenage girl died in a stabbing following an altercation aboard a Metrobus that escalated Monday in Northwest, Washington, D.C.

After a verbal fight with another individual on the Metrobus the unidentified girl exited the vehicle at the intersection of Kansas Avenue and Emerson Street NW. Another female followed the 17-year-old girl off the Metrobus and stabbed her in the chest. Authorities transported the girl to a local hospital wear she succumbed to her injury, reports WJLA.

Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) are looking for a black female wearing dark pants and a denim jacket.

“Homicide Detectives and Metro Transit Police are checking for video from the bus,” an MPD officer told WJLA. “I want to assure the residents of the 4th District that this Homicide is in no way connected to the ones on Kennedy St or Buchanan St.”

Two men were gunned down in Northwest, D.C., Saturday in a incident on Kennedy Street in the Fourth District at roughly 2:15 a.m. Authorities pronounced one man dead at the scene and the other passed away Sunday at a local hospital.

Interim Police Chief Peter Newsham will hold a community meeting Thursday with MPD officers and residents of the Fourth District to discuss the violence in their community.

The homicide rate in the District spiked 54 percent in 2015, and is only 11 percent lower so far this year. Homicides have tripled in Ward 7. D.C. is suffering a violent year overall, with 109 homicides across the city. The alarming surge in homicides is down from the shocking numbers in 2015, but is still historically high. There were a total of 105 homicides in 2014 and 88 in 2012.
