Houston Police ‘Heavily Deployed’ After Guns And Ammo Found In Hotel Overlooking New Year’s Eve Event

The Houston Police Department will deploy officers and SWAT teams heavily throughout the city Sunday night after police arrested a man who had guns and ammo in his hotel room overlooking the space for the hotel’s New Year’s Eve festivities.

Members of the hotel staff at Houston Hyatt Regency first called police Sunday morning when the man was drunkenly refusing to leave the hotel bar. Police sought to arrest him for disorderly conduct then found an AR-15, a shotgun, a handgun, and “lots of ammo,” according to KPRC News. The unnamed man’s room was on the 28th floor, overlooking the Hyatt’s planned party with musical guests and hundreds of attendees. Police have released on information indicating that the man intended to attack the party.

The Hyatt hotel also released a statement Sunday, explaining to guests that they are working alongside police to ensure safety at the party.

“The safety and security of our guests and colleagues is our top priority, and consistent with the hotel’s prepared security plans, heightened measures are in place on New Year’s Eve,” the statement said. “We are fully cooperating with authorities on an investigation, and further questions should be directed to the Houston Police Department.”
